Saturn turned retrograde December 31st in Virgo. In and of itself this is not such a big deal because Saturn goes retrograde every year. Saturn is structure and that which is tried and true. Since last October we have been feeling the affects of Saturn opposite inventive Uranus in Pisces. This influence continues through the end of February. Now that Saturn is retrograde, Uranus and the innovation he brings become more influential. Inventiveness will take precedence over resistance to change in one or more areas of our lives.

Jupiter moves into Aquarius January 5 and transits this sign until January 17 2010. While expansive Jupiter is moving through Aquarius interest in sciences and discovery will be revived. Breakthroughs will happen especially in scientific matters that affect the masses. Since Aquarius rules batteries, support for the electric car will increase and that technology will experience breakthroughs. Air travel will be easier than in the recent past as airlines upgrade and adapt to new ways of operation. Innovations in airplanes and the material used to build and operate them will be in the news while cutting edge techniques in architecture become available to all of us. The big picture of life is a topic to be hashed over so that we can all thrive happily on the planet.

Aquarius is lucky to have a visit from Jupiter as he brings opportunities to this sign throughout the year. The last time Jupiter transited Aquarius was January 22,1997 –February 4 1998. All of us can expect similar opportunities as those that occurred during that time. The worst news for Aquarius is that as their reputation is expanding so might Aquarian waists.

While Jupiter moves through Aquarius he forms really nice angles to Gemini and Libra. These signs have opportunities to grow, travel, and learn. Jupiter is considered a beneficial planet but all are warned against overdoing any good thing.

Speaking of Aquarius, the first new Moon eclipse of 2009 occurs January 27 at 1:55 am CST at six degrees Aquarius. Eclipses are a jump-start for the next six months. Aquarius, especially those born late January, have extra special new beginnings over the course of the year. Since Mercury is retrograde until the Feb 1, all are wise to hold on any decisions that come up around the eclipse until next month. Many of us are striking out in new life directions as a result of this eclipse. This particular eclipse is almost exactly opposite the August 1, 2008 eclipse. Issues and situations that occurred then are revisited and hopefully resolved. New directions and decisions that were made last August are up for revision.

This eclipse is awfully close to Jupiter and Mercury also in Aquarius thus amplifying our emotions. Plus, this event is not far from angling Pluto now in Capricorn. One or more government or lunatic in our personal lives is sure to rattle their swords in order to make a radical point.

Consider January 1990 when we last experienced an eclipse on the same date at the same position. Inventory your life events that occurred in the past nineteen-year cycle and you will have a hint of what to expect this time around. Nineteen years from now in 2028 an eclipse occurs on the same calendar date and the same position.

Mercury moves into Aquarius January 1. Mercury does especially well in this sign and over the course of the next eleven days our thoughts and attention turn toward common goals and ideas. Our curiosities are peaked and many of us will be more inventive than usual. This too shall pass as Mercury makes his first retrograde January 11 to February 1. He starts off retrograde in Aquarius and backs into Capricorn January 21. While Mercury is retrograde in Aquarius we are rethinking friendships and groups we think we need to embrace. Many of us will discover that we do not necessarily want to play with this or that group any more because we cannot identify with their purpose any longer.

Once Mercury moves into Capricorn on the 21st we will have to look at just how logical previous plans are and if we need to change those plans. While Mercury is retrograde we always have to redo and reorganize situations because they are not able to stand one or more tests. Never begin projects while Mercury is retrograde. Publicity, mass mailings, and advertising in general receive underwhelming responses while Mercury is retrograde. The best way to get through any Mercury retrograde cycle is to stay focused and pay attention. Even then this tricky fellow is sure to pull one over on the best of us.

Throughout the month we have three or four planets moving through Aquarius. The asteroid Chiron and the north node of the Moon are also in Aquarius. Since Aquarius rules group interaction January is sure to be a social month. Once the Sun moves into Aquarius January 19 our empathy and compassion will compel us to connect emotionally to our fellow beings. Setting goals and understanding how to make those dreams come true are a big part of January. Now is the time to support those we love as well as those we do not know.

January 3
Venus moves into Pisces until February 2nd. “I’ll have the fish,” may be a common order as Pisces rules fish and fish will certainly look good enough to eat while Venus moves through this sign. Compassion is high and many of us will want to rescue others. Choose wisely whom you choose to rescue.

January 4
Venus is sixty degrees from Pluto now in Capricorn. When Venus gets together with Pluto emotions are more intense than your every day “Hi how are you?” Thoughts about one or more relationships are quite insightful. Hold off until tomorrow night to make a commitment.

January 9
The Sun, in Capricorn, is sixty degrees from Uranus in Pisces. There is more than one solution to any situation and today is the day to find an alternative path.

January 10
The full Moon occurs in Cancer at 9:27 PM CST. The Moon rules Cancer and Cancers need to be needed. Many of us will be filled with concern for those with less than ourselves. This is the peak of the Moon’s cycle so we are more emotional than usual. Some of us have drama that needs to be expressed. Composure is very important when dealing with older or authoritative persons. Cancer, Aries, Libra, and Capricorn should give thought to any presentation. January 18
Mercury, retrograde in Aquarius is conjunct Jupiter. The big picture of life is easy to see, but since Mercury is retrograde there is something wrong with the picture. Plans, especially those involving travel are best avoided.

January 19
The Sun enters Aquarius until February 18. We already have Mercury, Jupiter, Neptune, Chiron, and the north node in Aquarius. Common goals are highly favored now as we look optimistically to the next twelve months. Innovative ideas are on our minds. Balance the needs of others with your own desires. That sounds easy but Leo, Taurus, and Scorpio will be most challenged to maintain a sense of self and peace of mind over the next thirty days.

January 20
The Sun conjunct Mercury in Aquarius is usually great for planning and scheming. Since Mercury is retrograde, revise what is already on the plate. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio are busy fixing that which was not done correct the first time around.

Mars in Capricorn is sixty degrees from Uranus and Venus conjunct in Pisces. New and different relationships come into play. The different sorts of people that get us jazzed surprises us. Mars in Capricorn is one hundred twenty degrees from Saturn retrograde in Virgo. Projects that require a steady hand and organization are easy to accomplish. Since Venus is opposite Saturn and angling Mars, try a different tact for any task. Do not answer the telephone or get sidetracked when in deep concentration.
